Expert insight on composite decking
Updated: Aug 31
Composite decking is as popular as ever and one can see why with a long life span and boards that never splinter, rot, or need staining.
Most manufacturers offer either a 25-year or limited-lifetime warranty on structural integrity; with some warranties being transferable from one homeowner to another. Fading, scratches, and stains usually aren't usually covered, but are with a select few manufacturers. While there are many great advantages, one big disadvantage is the cost, with composite decking running 3-4 times the cost of conventional wood decking.
Some of the larger name manufacturers are now producing boards in varying widths, which gives homeowners a new design alternative.
And just in case you need a little more encouragement to take the plunge to composite: Every 10 square feet contains nearly 3,000 recycled plastic shopping bags and 1,100 one-gallon milk jugs! Now that's an advantage we can all appreciate!
